Tech Tip - Basic Motorcycle inspection
Whether your motorcycle has been stored for the winter or you've been riding on a regular basis, it is always a good idea to do a periodic inspection. This will ensure your bike is safe and reliable. Here are some tips to check out all the basic systems of your bike:
Electrical - lights, instruments, horn, make sure wires are not frayed or loose, check battery level & clean the terminals
Engine fluids - Check levels of all fluids. If oil is dark, change the oil & filter. Inspect fuel filter & screens. Check coolant level as well as hoses
Brakes - Check all lines for wear and leakage. Check master cylinder for clean brake fluid & proper fluid levels
Tires & wheels - Inspect tires for even wear, tread depth and air pressure. Inspect rims for dents or cracks. Check axle nuts & other hardware for tightness
Engine & transmission - Check spark plugs and carbs. Inspect oil lines for leaks and wear. Inspect & clean air filter
Frame & suspension - Check and tighten all nuts & bolts. Inspect forks for proper fluid levels. Inspect rear shock. Inspect handlebars or clipons for cracks or bends
